José Nieto Ibáñez - Sevilla, España
The youth barranquillera, and coastal in general, little knows about some events of our past, during the already finished XX century, as consequence that up to now, the educational entities had never worried to develop the class of history of Barranquilla; something that is being a reality for very little time, in universities like That of the North and of the Atlantic.
The book that we will point out tries about a tragedy happened in the enclosure of the Theater Cisneros, when amid the projection of the movie The one Chained, two important characters of the city fought to shots during the night of Thursday October 15 1925.
However, with the spirit of making easier this review, let us transcribe what is written in the Introduction inside the first chapter: “(…) The reason of this book is to relate some facts had happened more than for 70 years, October of 1925, 15 the first of them, and January of 1926, 10 the second. In the initial event it lost the life the journalist, Pedro Shepherd Mother-in-law, and in the other one, it was murdered the poet and journalist, Héctor you Gave birth to Oliver.
“Our informative sources have been the Newspaper of the Trade” of October 16 1925 and the edition of January 11 1926 respectively, besides gift's investigative and documental collaboration Francisco Héctor of Pariahs Glen, the murdered poet's son.
“Through the reading of this small book, the young reader will be able to end up knowing, in a way a film point, the truth of some facts that they already belong to the history of Barranquilla; but the biggest readers and those that were perhaps contemporary of these eventses, will be surprised in the face of the explanation of some events that you/they have been, until the current, total moment and premeditatedly desvirtuados of their reality…. etc.
But let us read what tells the prologuista, the historian, Thrown Álvaro Arciniegas. Let us see: “(…) From the first paragraph of this conceived book and written with deep filial love, the reader is pleasurably shivered with the literature inspired by the pure feeling.
The terrible nightmare of the night barranquillera of October of 1.925, 15 unchained three equally irreparable tragedies, like it was said in the time: a, the journalist's death Pedro Shepherd Mother-in-law; two, Héctor's Pariahs imprisonment Oliver, (Hipólito Pereira) y their later murder in the jail at the hands of an assassin that had the actions and the omissions accomplices of the prison and judicial authorities to finish their cruel action; three, the literary extrañamiento of the work that has rescued in good hour, their son Francisco Héctor of Pariahs Glen.
Truly, the book, necessary and opportune anthology, it has been written to four hands. Francisco Héctor of Pariahs Glen Ibáñez went to José Grandson, exhaustive investigator on documents related with the development of the commercialization of the cinema in Colombia, so that in a first part of the text, Grandson Ibáñez, created the local atmosphere that he/she helps to specify the social and cultural significance of the scenario of the unfortunate events: the Theater Cisneros.
“Positively documented this work, or better Héctor's Pariahs son, claims the reestablishment of the “historical truth” by means of the documental confrontation that he rises, in front of the interpretations that in his book “Rehearsals of Political and Social History of Barranquilla 1.905-1.935”, it proposes on these same events, the educational university student and historian Jaime Colpas Gutiérrez and that in discussion grace, of Pariahs Glen, returns Colpas the right of against replica.
We don't advance our conclusion on these topics, excessively in extreme delicate matter. The reader will be able to experience, through the different sources contrasted in the controversy, the opportunity to be a judge, of giving a verdict.
In any event, he should not get lost of view the certain fact, objective, unanswerable, that the fatal main characters received the public recognition from what called you men of character in the time and that both were armed of paths guns and to who the destination transformed into victimario, they cured him of two shots.
“What has happened if the victim has been the victimario? In the journalistic political history of Barranquilla the antecedent existed of the one it throws that Pedro found difficult life Quesada Rosemary at the hands of Fernando AND Baena. Then the cause was settled as the consequence of a bereavement of honor.
“Beyond this present controversy among historians that the categorical statements and the subtleties of the examined arguments discuss and properly documented, we decide to stop in the writer, in the poet, in the editor, in the man of letters that was Héctor Pariahs Oliver, better acquaintance in the typographic atmosphere of the Atlantic Costa, as Hipólito Pereira, writer whose competition editorial and conceptual he is strongly bound to the most important Colombian publication on literature in their time, with continental projection, we are speaking of the magazine VOICES: Héctor Pariahs Oliver was his propietario…etc.
This book, written as we have already expressed to four hands, it contains besides the foreword, recognitions and gratefulness, what continues next.
